Mrs. Bertha Deaton Shouse, age 81, of Paris Crossing, Indiana, entered this life on April 12, 1929, in Hazard, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late, Floyd & Sally Mays Deaton. She was raised in Scott County and attended school there. She was united in marriage on Nov. 1, 1949 in Scottsburg, Indiana to Carlos J. Shouse, Sr. This union was blessed with five sons. She was first employed with Deaton's Grocery in Austin and later with Morgan's Packing Company in Austin. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandma. She enjoyed caring for her family, gardening, raising flowers, crocheting, & singing gospel music. She had attended the Chelsea Church of God and resided in Paris Crossing the past 24 years. Bertha died Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at her home in Paris Crossing Indiana.

Bertha will be missed by her loving husband of sixty one years: Carlos J. Shouse, Sr. of Paris Crossing, Indiana; her loving sons: Floyd T. Shouse & his wife, Janice of Anniston, Alabama; Larry Cleveland Shouse of Deputy, Indiana; Joseph Wayne Shouse & his wife, Sunita of Raleigh, North Carolina; Carlos James Shouse, Jr. & his wife, Trudy of North Vernon, Indiana; Kenneth Dale Shouse & his wife, Patty of Paris Crossing, Indiana; her loving brother: Silas Deaton & his wife, Lorene, Ohio; her loving brothers in law & sisters in law: Warden & Patricia Shouse of Summersville, Tennessee; Wanda & Gary Eddings of Jeffersonville, Indiana; Jalah & Joe Groeneboom of Marysville, Indiana; 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews & other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd & Sally Mays Deaton; her brothers, Joe, Henry, Dee, Jay & Tee Deaton; her sisters, Mahaylee "Pod" Deaton, Goldie Ralleigh & Susie Moore.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., by Pastor Ron Evans at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.
Friends may call Sunday from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
