Mrs. Doris LaVerne Long Chandler, age 85, of Auburndale, Florida, entered this life on March 16, 1924, in Jefferson County, Indiana, the daughter of Rufus M. & Thelma Nighbert Long. She was raised in Kent and was a 1942, graduate of Hanover High School. On Jan. 20, 1942, Doris LaVerne was united in marriage to Raymond Edward Chandler. To this happy union arrived two daughters to bless their home. She was employed as a supervisor with the Indiana Ammunitions Department in Charlestown, Indiana for 25 years. She also farmed early in life working and plowing with mules. In 1973, she moved to Auburndale, Florida and worked for the Fleetwood Drapery Company until 1997, working as a seamstress. She then continued to sew at her home, making quilts and blankets to sell. She was a member ot the North Madison Baptist Church in Madison and the Lena Vista Baptist Church in Auburndale, Florida. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, her church work and her family. Doris LaVerne died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 5:29 p.m. at the St. Catherine Regional Hospital in Charlestown, Indiana.

Long & his wife: Letha of Madison, Indiana, Carroll Long & his wife: Mary of Pleasantview, Indiana; her loving grandchildren: Carol Rahe White & her husband: James Lamar, Lori Wyatt & her husband: Bryan, Kathy Hall & her husband: Warren, Doris Smith & her husband: Rob, Eddie Waltz & his wife: Laura, Kimberly Sue Higdon & her husband: Greg, Rusty Reed; 12-great grandchildren, her uncle: Lee Nighbert & his wife: Sarah of Mooreville, Indiana; 4-great great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews & other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents: Rufus M. & Thelma Nighbert Long; her husband: Raymond Edward Chandler died: October 7, 1983; her daugther: Constance Lorene Chandler Waltz-Monroe died: Jan. 16, 2010; her granddaughter: Cynthia Lou Waltz; her great grandson: Jason Lozell; her brother: Raymond K. Long died: May 4, 2008; her aunts & uncles: Milton & Agnes Rowlett; Everett & Ruby Gassert and Carl Nighbert .


FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 7, 2010 at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor Frank McGee,at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison, Indiana.


VISITATION
Friends may call Saturday from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12 Noon until time of the service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
