Mr. Dwight LaValle Shelton, age 65, of Madison, Indiana and formerly of Farmland, Indiana. Dwight LaValle Shelton was born on December 13, 1943, in Madison, Indiana. He was the son of Raymond & Elieen Brooks Shelton, both of whom preceded him in death. He was raised in Jefferson County and was a 1961 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. He attended Ball State University and was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He was united in marriage on October 20, 1962 in Muncie, Indiana to Lavita Jayne McQueen. They raised three daughters, a son, and three grandchildren. He was employed for twenty years with Westinghouse in Muncie as a supervisor. He retired from industrial tool sales with Quality Mill Supply in Muncie.

Dwight approached everything in life with great enthusiasm, which included hunting, fishing, conservation, 4-H shooting sports, hunter's education, sprint car racing fanatic, and rock & roll music. Dwight loved to travel and especially enjoyed family vacations to Mexico. He found strength and beauty in nature. He was devoted to his farmland near Manville and enjoyed the family log guest home called "Shelton's Ash Manor". Dwight was an excellent leader and had served as past president of the Indiana Wildlife Federation as well as the Indiana Delegate to the National Wildlife Federation and was a certified hunter education instructor and 4-H shooting sports instructor. He was a founding member of the Farmland Conservation Club. He was appointed by three past Governors of the State of Indiana to the Indiana Heritage Trust. He was Past Chapter President of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Dwight enjoyed his faithful companion: Weejus as well as numerous grand dogs. Dwight fought an incredible battle with Colon Cancer for five and a half years. In his words to his beloved wife, he felt that three years into it, no matter what, he had won the battle. Dwight died on Monday morning at 7:28 a.m. at his farm near Manville in Madison with his loving family at his side.

Dwight will be missed by his loving wife of forty seven years: Lavita Shelton of Madison, Indiana; his daughters: Nancy Thompson of Madison, Indiana, Stephanie Shelton of Indianapolis, Indiana, Allison Shelton Brady & her husband: Charlie of Mooresville, North Carolina; his son: Justin Shelton & his partner: Mark Osadjan of Chicago, Illinois; his step mother: Mary Scott Shelton of Hamilton, Michigan; his grandchildren: Richard Thompson, Lauren Thompson King & her husband: Cody; Nathan Thompson; his step grandson: Chase Brady; his sisters: Phyllis Kirby & her husband: Dewayne of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Debbie Shelton of San Luis Obispo, California, Leann Volkers & her husband: Dar of Hamilton, Michigan, Theresa Zeh of Manistee , Michigan, Kim TerBeek of Hamilton, Michigan, Tammy Kleis & her husband: Chuck of Hamilton, Michigan; his brothers: Randy Shelton & his wife: Amy of Hamilton, Michigan, Kevin Shelton of Hamilton, Michigan, Rodney Shelton & his wife: Kelly of Hamilton, Michigan, Frankie Larson of Seymour, Indiana; his brother in law: Delbert Tenckinck of Holland, Michigan; his special nephews: Joe Navari of Sacramento, California, Paul Navari of Portland, Oregon, Nicholas Navari of McMinnville, Oregon; his beloved aunts: Charlotte Baird of Manville, Indiana, Norma Walker & her husband: Wendell of Tacoma, Washington, Mary Borter of Madison, Indiana, Myra Brett of Cincinnati, Ohio; his mother in law: Bertha McQueen of Madison, Indiana; his wife's close cousins: Rosemary McQueen Day & her husband: David of Indianapolis, Indiana, Marilyn McQueen of Madison, Indiana, many Amish friends, and Dwight was the special cousin, uncle, friend, father figure, and mentor to an incredibly large number of relatives, friends, and 4-H students over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents: Raymond & Elieen Brooks Shelton; his grandson: Hayden Christopher Thompson; his sister: Brenda Tenckinck in June 2007.


CELEBRATION OF LIFE CEREMONY
The celebration of life ceremony will be conducted Friday, December 4, 2009 at 2:00 pm, by his beloved family at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.


GATHERING AND RECEPTION TIME
Friends may gather on Friday at 1:00 pm at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, the Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. will be a reception at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
