In Memoriam George D. Morgan

   December 1, 1936 - June 20, 2013
December 1, 1936 - June 20, 2013
George D. Morgan went to work early in life for the late John Gans at the Gans Funeral Home and Furniture Store in downtown Madison, and this began a long and faithful service to his community. He began full time employment at the Gans Funeral Home in June of 1960 later becoming the owner of Gans Funeral Home in 1977 until he sold the funeral home in 1981. He was a licensed EMT with Gans Ambulance Service and Hugh Garner’s Med Care Ambulance Service for many years. He had served as Vice President of Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre since 1996. He had been associated with funeral service in Madison for the past 60 years. While George chose not to become a licensed funeral director, he had more personal experience in the service of his community than any licensed director active in funeral service today. George’s efforts to work compassionately with generations of local families have had a positive impact on the lives of those he has touched. George enjoyed helping children in the community and many of his endeavors in life were to enrich the lives of Jefferson County Youth. He enjoyed driving a school bus for the same route for twenty five years with the Madison Consolidated School System. He was a great supporter of the Jefferson County Republican Party and enjoyed seven years of service to the City of Madison as a City Councilman. He was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Madison, the Madison Moose Lodge No. 765, Madison Elks Lodge No. 524, Historic Madison Inc., Union Lodge No. 2 F. & A.M., and the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. George was a great supporter of the Jefferson County 4-H, the Friends of Shawe and Pope John as well as many other organizations in the community. George will be long remembered for his smile, caring and compassionate nature and hard work.
